Writing, Family and More
Two days left before this all starts. My brother was asking if I was still doing prep work since I hadn’t posted in a few days. The answer is yes. Yes, I have.
Right now, my main story has five complete threads to wind together and intertwine. Instead of getting rid of one of the threads, I decided to add a fifth. It seemed reasonable since I really want to beef up the daily word count.
One of my daughters came over and said I typed really quickly without looking at what I was doing. The next couple of lines was me looking at her and not at the computer.
Ayla wanted me to type while looking at her and not looking at the screen. I hope she laughs some more since that makes my day.She is laughing again… and some more.
She makes me laugh.
Back to the business at hand – NaNo – 2 days away. I’ve got ~90 scenes detailed over the course of five storylines for one book. I’ve also got brief outlines for two other stories detailed and ready to go in case the main story I’m planning on doesn’t go well.
Also, I’ve been working on Jacoby Figurine and working in some of the details that will hopefully turn my two-dimensional world into a living, breathing one that my readers can get lost in. I’ve only added 2-3k in the past few days, but I feel they were quality additions. For instance, the main characters entered a house and went directly from the foyer into the study of a fairly stately house. I had a note that I was bothered by it, but the reason why is I didn’t have the details to show the other parts of the house they experienced on the way to the study.
So Jacoby is seeing some improvements in the opening chapters. I’ve also decided I need to include the setup material for the opening chapters – probably in the form of “flashback chapters” – so the opening will remain the same, but we’ll back things up so that the readers can figure out why they should care about this particular set of events and people.
The first draft of Jacoby was around 21k I think, and it is now sitting around 27k – so it isn’t increasing in size quickly, but progress continues. Of course, progress will stop while NaNo is going on, but it isn’t going anywhere in the meantime.
Is everyone else ready for NaNo? I think I am… maybe.
