Day 22, 2543

Sorry for the few days of silence as I continued to work. I prefer to make a daily post over the course of the month, but I found I was barely giving myself the time to write each day; adding more time to jot down a blog post was just not the priority it used to be.

I’ve determined I have a problem with the word “really.” As in, I really dislike using it in my writing, professionally for sure, but even in my work for NaNoWriMo. It is an extra word you can fit into every sentence if you decide to go nuts with it, but it adds no value whatsoever.

A few months ago, my team of writers did several “ninja writing” sessions in order to tighten up our text and make sure our words were powerful and useful. Cutting out the no value words is a part of that process and now I’m using those skills in my writing for this month. That said, I find myself writing “really” at least twenty times a day. I drop it each time, but the thought to use it is right on the tip of my mind. I can’t wait to drop it from my vocabulary, because I really can’t stand it.

About the novel, it is coming along. When I set down to write, I’m getting a good word count in a short period of time. This is wonderful for me, since I’ve been having more short periods of time to write than long ones. However, I did have a mini-panic when I realized I only had nine days left and twenty thousand words to write. I’ll need to exceed two thousand words each day until the end, but that is still doable. I’m glad I put down 2500 today too, since that helps lessen the blow if I miss along the way.

Home stretch time. Get those novels finished up and I’ll meet you at the figurative finish line.

Happy writing all!
