Writing, Family and More

Day 2, 1732

I had a few opportunities to write today, but most of them were subsumed by allowing the kids to use the computer for schoolwork. As a result, it was already late when I finally sat down to write.

At the bus stop this morning though, I did a quick synopsis of the opening scene and asked the 8-year-old and the 6-year-olds what they thought should happen next. The opening scene has a farmer heading into the woods to get to town to trade his crop for supplies for the winter, but I left him in the woods overnight.

The 8-year-old thought the farmer should have accidentally dropped some of his stuff on the ground and go back to get it, only to find it was a six-eyed monster. The other idea, coming from one of the 6-year-olds, was for him to think a tree moved, so he walks closer to it, and it does move!

They were so excited to talk about the story with me and I love to hear their excitement about it.

The 11-year-old is still moving along with her story at a good clip. She’s reading it to the boys each night and they can’t get enough. Since she is essentially writing fan fiction, the three of them are all invested in the characters that they like from the source.

Anyway, I wrote today, and that is the good piece of my productivity for the day and I’ll take it. More tomorrow I hope.
