Letters from Camp: Day 1. No rain at least

Dear Dad,

I know I dropped out of camp early two years ago. And then didn’t want to come back out of embarrassment last year. Thank you for sending me again this year. Even if it was to “get you out of my hair” as I heard you say one day. It’s okay. This year has started off pretty good. No rain after all. At least not yet. And my bunk mate seems to not feel the need to cower under his covers all day, so that’s a pretty good sign too.

The day overall was pretty uneventful. We went swimming, had a campfire and roasted marshmallows. Really nothing too special…

Well except for the dragon that flew overhead. That was pretty darn cool. Life-altering cool. He looked over the camp as he flew over. John was saying how cool it would be if the dragon breathed fire over the camp. I didn’t point out that we would be the tasty marshmallows, but I think he figured it out when one of the other kids punched him in the arm. It would have been cool to see the dragon up close though.

Assuming he didn’t try to eat us anyway.

I’ve decided to put my efforts this month into learning about dragons as a result though. Clearly with a specimen so close, it will be a good place to start. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get to meet him.

And I’ll make sure to not look at all tasty if I get that opportunity.

Wish me luck!

Your son, David
