Addition and Subtraction

No, I have not forgotten how to add or subtract. Tonight, I am in the midst of editing Jacoby Figurine and again I’m confronted with the issue of adding or subtracting from the existing work in order to (hopefully) improve it. After having set it down for so long, I have to admit it took me a little while to get back into it. Still, I kept at it because I had decided I would get some work done tonight.

So I worked through a few thousand words of the text (yay!) and added some 400 words or so. Now that I’m rereading what I’ve added, I’m pretty sure I’m actually going to cut the whole scene…

See, the issue with the scene is it sets up a later chapter where the main character discovers his mentor dead. What the scene was going to have was the villain torturing the mentor, but once I got there I realized that while the villain is a villain, torture is really not his thing. It took me writing the scene to really know that – so no, I don’t consider it wasted effort. Just an hour and a half or so of working through it and realizing that it has to go.

Of course, I won’t delete it wholesale yet. One of the benefits of working with WriteWay Pro is that I can reorganize things easily and even mark my chapters for deletion later. I’ve come to really enjoy working with the software – definitely the best gift I gave myself a few years back for Christmas/finishing NaNo 🙂

So let’s see here…

Previous amount: ~500 words
Editing tonight: ~2500 words divided by 2 = 1250 words
This post: call it 250.

So I’m sitting around 2000 for the month towards my artificial goal of 10,000 words.

I’m hoping to get some more progress this weekend – let’s see how that goes.

Keep on writing folks 🙂
