NaNoWriMo 2014 – Day 3: 629

Every year I wonder how long it will take me to have a below average day (below the average needed to meet the goal for the month). I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing, I just wonder about it. In 2011, it was day 4 (1030). In 2012, it was day 3 (a zero even). In 2013, it was day 3 (244). In other words, I don’t think it is a big surprise that I hit it on day 3 again. However, since we’re talking about average, I really shouldn’t have to be concerned about the individual days unless I start writing below the average all of the time. Day 1 and 2 left me with a good surplus and while I am technically behind the day 3 goal, it is an amount from which I can recover.

Apparently, in addition to the fact that I didn’t make my word count yesterday, the NaNoWriMo word count update function is not working. So although I should have a nice yellow block in for yesterday, it will probably be red. And that’s fine because I end up with a few reds throughout my month.

The story itself is progressing slowly. I was having trouble working on it last night because it really wants to be a zombie apocalypse and I haven’t firmly made the commitment to move away from that. I’ll make that commitment today, I just need to figure out how to get it there. Even if that solution is to add a “CUT THIS” in front of scenes 2-4 of the story for after I am done.

Well, I’m off to get some word count done for the day. Hoping for a big day today, but we’ll see how it goes overall once I get into the thick of it. Happy authoring!
