Writing, Family and More
Welcome back to NaNoWriMo. For those who are not initiated, this is the month where I attempt to write a novel during the month of November. Well a 50,000 word story to be more precise. I’ve participated in the past four years and succeeded each year, despite all manner of events to derail me.
This year, I have so much going well for me that I was feeling pretty confident about it overall and didn’t really expect a problem. Then two days ago I had a revelation that I had no free time and that I’d have to carve that out to make sure I got it done. Writing though requires carving out the right time to get things going and I did that today, with relative ease. We’ll see how it goes for the whole month though.
The story I’m working on this year is actually based on a question my 10-year old daughter asked me the other day about fossils. I’ve posted a quick synopsis on the projects page if you want to take a look. So far, the story is actually flowing quite well. The narrator is coming naturally and I quite like the character of Anderson who suddenly popped into being once I started writing.
I ended up getting two writing sessions in today. One for about a half hour and then a second one while laying bed to round out my total for the day at 1932. Couple of hundred extra words for the day is a nice start. I’d love to be averaging 2000 words per day because I just don’t know if I will be making it to many of the write-ins I normally attend and the all day write-in I’ve attended in the past coincides with a family party, so I’ll likely only get to part of that.
This year, in addition to my brother (who has participated and finished the last two years) and my niece (who has participated a few times and finished twice), I’m happy to say I’ve encouraged a few others to take up the figurative pen to battle the page. I wish all of them luck in their journey.
Happy NaNoWriMo everyone!
