India Trip – Charminar

After leaving the Salar Jung Museum, we took a short car ride over to the iconic image for Hyderabad:

Charminar

Charminar was breath-taking and, if it weren’t for the crowds of people, I probably would have enjoyed it much more. I took some pictures of it from two of the sides (I could have done a 3rd side, but it is essentially the same on all sides). We didn’t get to climb up in it since it had already closed by the time we got there.

The downside to the place is probably it’s good side too, I just didn’t appreciate it. For instance, when I took out my camera to take a picture, I was immediately approached by several people begging for food or money. And since there were huge crowds, I felt really uncomfortable with the idea of taking money out of my pocket. I quickly hid the camera and tried to move on.

We ended up stopping at a little road-side tea shop and I had possibly the most delicious cup of hot tea I have ever had. And this while standing outside in 100+ degree weather. Here’s me in front of Charminar. Not pictured: My delicious cup of tea…

Me in front of Charminar

Despite my discomfort with regard to the “old” city, I think it was pretty good to remind me that I am doing well for myself and I should appreciate that more.
