Flight 3 – Doha International Airport

Monday, 6:20pm, Doha International Airport

I like this airport for its free wifi.

That said, I am not impressed with how you move around it. I got off the plane, after 12 hours in flight, jumped on a bus to the “transfer” area, went through another security check, sat in a waiting area, back on a bus to where I had disembarked in the first place. Apparently Doha airport is an “up and coming” airport though – so maybe this is just an issue that it is still growing.

The long flight was a challenge. I had plenty of leg room to work with – no neighbors to either side and no one behind me. The person in-front of me was asleep with the seat reclined fully from the beginning of the flight. I had enough room to sit, but no room in which to set up my laptop. I watched a few movies, listened to music, tried to sleep, tried the food they gave me (I wasn’t too impressed with it), and moved around a little. Used a bathroom in a flying airplane for the first time and found it was just like using one on the ground, with the exception that I had random visions of hitting bad turbulence and flying into the ceiling…

With regard to the turbulence, I did have a few feelings of panic when I realized I was out deep over the Atlantic and knew I wouldn’t be found even if I did survive a plane crash. A very morbid thought, but I did my best to quell it. People fly over the Atlantic all the time.
