Day 22: Goal 1667, Actual 1756

This has been a bit of a crazy week and I am thankful that the work part of it is finished. Some good things, some not so good things going on, so I’m thankful that I can put that away for a couple of days.

Tonight, I had a movie night with my kids. This made bed time a little later than I really wanted and made for not wanting to write and just relax instead, but I stuck to it. If I am ever going to be better about writing during the off-season, I really need to put this commitment into my schedule even when I don’t feel like writing.

The story itself is continuing on well. I really expected to be already finished with this climax, but it has taken a turn for the worse and the heroes seem to be in an insurmountable position at this point. Maybe I’ll figure it out tomorrow, but right now, things are pretty bleak. For the heroes. Not for the writing about the situation – that is actually going pretty well so far.

The important milestone for the night is that 40,000 words has been surpassed. Less than 20% left to go meet the goal of the month overall. In each of my previous years I’ve been happy with my story by this point (and 10-15k earlier) in such a way that I was already telling people I was planning on scrapping everything past “that bad part” where the writing went awry. This time, I am still very much in tune with the story and while I know it will be going through a rewrite, I know as well that it is usable. I know I can get behind the story and really make it sing.

In other words, I am looking forward to the rewriting of this book when I am done.

Now I just need to close out the month. For those of you with me – keep on writing!
