Writing, Family and More
It isn’t often that I’ll say a Monday is better than a Sunday, but this is just one of those days. I was not in a good mood yesterday and as a result I wasn’t very much inclined to get anything done, let alone the writing that I should have needed to get done.
Today was significantly better and I definitely am enjoying myself with how the story has turned. Many writers can talk extensively about how the story lives and breathes while you write it. Some will tell how their characters will do something crazy, unexpected, unplanned.
Today, my murder victim did something entirely unexpected: he wasn’t actually dead! I honestly hadn’t even pondered the possibility until the words appeared on the page five minutes into my writing tonight and once it did – my fingers were typing furiously away as I started to unfold and unpack how he wasn’t quite dead. Since this is a world set in the realm of fantasy, it isn’t necessarily outside the possibility of zombies, ghouls and vampires (though murder-victim is definitely not a vampire…), it just isn’t an aspect I had worked with ahead of time.
What this has done is toss around the motivation of the story and how it will get to where it is going. However it is going to get there though and I’m along for the ride.
I’m not entirely sure I am done writing for the night. I am taking a break though because I need to think some more about the next scene and this was a convenient place to rest. We’ll see. I’m down on where I should be for day 4, but I don’t think I’ll have to worry about word count from here on in anyway.
I hope the days are going well for the other WriMos out there. And for those of you above 10k already – I’m jealous.
