Seasonal Ride

I had the pleasure of enjoying another ride with the Ashland Bike Club this morning. We had a good turnout with a total of nine riders – including two kids who were in the 9-12 range. Their family was planning on just doing the “short ride” today, but when we got to the turn off point, they said they wanted to keep going! I was really impressed with how they managed the 23 miles that we did.

One small accidental detour happened around mile 9 when I turned to lead the group down one road, but the trip organizer said we turned at the wrong spot. Once we all got back underway, and we went another 1.5 miles, we discovered that my turn was correct. I was just following the cue sheet of course, so I didn’t necessarily know one bad turn from another. We decided to backtrack though and got through the rest of the ride without incident.

We stopped in at Outpost Farm in Holliston for a quick bite of ice cream (and to refill my water bottle), and they did not disappoint!

I’m surprised that the heat wasn’t too much for me. The day started out muggy and in the 80s and probably by the time we were done we were in the 90s, but with the “air conditioning” of riding really fast, it worked out all right. To my knowledge, we all kept well hydrated and nothing untoward happened to anyone.

All in all – a very good day for a ride. Looking forward to the next one!

Here‘s the original map. Our detour was just past the turn at Causeway and took us out to route 109 and back. We also cut the end short a little bit by taking East Street to South street instead of Olive to Spring to South.  The grand total was 23.6 miles.
