Hopkinton State Park plus “Bike to Market”

Before I get started, I want to point out that I’ve officially changed the “focus” of this blog. Although it definitely started out as a NaNoWriMo blog, it would be inaccurate to continue referring to it that way. So, now, I think the title fits it a little better: Writing, Family and More. Hopefully without pressuring myself to do the writing aspect each and every day, I’ll find more motivation to get it done. Also, I won’t feel so bad when I have a post like today that is going to be about biking.

So without further ado, let’s talk biking.

This morning, I joined the Ashland Bike Club for two “short” rides. The first ride left from the farmer’s market in the town center, circled around into Southborough and over into Hopkinton State Park before returning to the farmer’s market. The Bike to Market portion, which left from the farmer’s market at 10:30, circled around through Ashland, Sherborn and Holliston before returning to Ashland. To quote Joel on his marketing spiel:

This week’s ride will bring a little variety to what we normally do. The Ashland Bike Club is teaming up with the Ashland Farmers Market to offer a ride called “Bike to Market” the goal of which is to encourage more bicycle riding in and around Ashland. Cycling offers numerous benefits including healthy exercise, a reduction in air pollution, a reduction in traffic and the opportunity to meet your neighbors.

The first portion of the ride had a good many ups and downs, but nothing as serious as some of the steep grades that I faced in the Lake Whitehall ride two weeks ago. It ended with a delightful, long downhill to help us recharge for the second ride.

The second portion again featured a few significant ups, but they were of the long meandering style rather than short steep grades and overall it was a very smooth ride.

Here’s the full ride that we took:

So all in all, a very pleasant ride. I’m hoping to get out for a shorter ride next weekend with my kids starting over in the Sudbury area, but we’ll see how the weather and availability turns out.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather if it is nice where you are.
