Letters from Camp: Day one

Dear Mom:

I know you told me to keep my spirits up, that this would be a wonderful experience full of all manner of fun activities and scientific discoveries, but I think I am going to call shenanigans on that.

It has been raining here since I arrived. Not a little drizzle, not a drip here and there. Hell, it would be a blessing if it was just a steady rain. But no. It has been pouring. Typhoon-level rain mom! Lightning and thunder and worse yet, my bunkmate seems to be terrified of… well of everything. I barely managed to find some peace from his whimpering for five minutes to write this down and if you’ll note carefully, the ink is running all over the page since I am IN THE RAIN while I write this. Better to be soaked than dealing with his nonsense…

Anyway, I promised I would give this a solid try and managed to get a few ounces of creativity down on paper at least (107.47 ounces to be exact). Nothing to write home about really, though here I am doing so anyway.

Please send some blankets, a few dry sets of clothes and some ear plugs. If those last can’t be found, I’ll settle for some duct tape. I’m sure it will solve one problem or two…

Your loving son,

Dave.

It looks like you might need a canoe!

Everything is better with a canoe, on a river, with some good music to listen to…
