Back to Work!

Okay, so February was pretty much a bust for production with regard to my writing. I thought about writing some, but in terms of actual writing? Yeah, not so much. February was still a good month though, so I’m not going to complain. I am going to see what March can do however… and since I’m already 6 days in, I better find out quickly.

After my kids went to bed, I immediately sat down and opened up Jacoby Figurine. I was about ten minutes in when my daughter came out and asked me why I was still working. After I answered her, she perked up and said “I want some salad!”

What I said: I’m working on a story that I’m cleaning up and see if I can sell it.

What she apparently heard: I’m working on a story and then I’m making a salad.

I’m not sure whether I need lessons in diction or if my daughter’s hearing should be checked again, but clearly this short game of telephone left something out…

After I cleared up that I wasn’t making a salad, she did give me a kiss and went back to bed and I was able to write for another half-hour before I lost my stride. All in all, I put down about a thousand words and I am continuing on my journey towards finishing the second draft.

In other news, part of what made February a good month is I finally learned how to make my family’s pie. I grew up eating “lemon sponge pie” – a recipe passed down from my father’s mother, but I had never once made one for myself. Since it is my favorite pie (and cake is nowhere near what pie is), I decided to leap in and make one. For my first one, I’m pretty happy with it and I look forward to making it again.

That was so successful though that I decided to make my second favorite dessert: cheesecake. This is again something I’ve never made before and a friend suggested I try it. I settled in on a pumpkin cheesecake recipe from Food Network and again was quite pleased with how it turned out.

So anyway, I am back to writing. Maybe the extra desserts taught me to write more. Sure, let’s go with that.

Happy writing everyone.
