When a Hero Comes Home Attempt Number 1

I decided I would continue doing informal write-ins for the off-season of NaNo. Every other week, right after my kids are picked up, my plan is to go to a cafe and write or do something writing-related (editing, research, etc) for the better part of three hours.

Given the new item on my plate, I decided I would see about getting a full first draft out this morning. I arrived later than I wanted to unfortunately, and after about two hours, I was stymied. I had only gotten through about half of the story and I really didn’t like it. I spent the next twenty minutes trying to make something work out of it, but eventually I just gave up on it. I’m not sure what I didn’t like about it, but I wasn’t able to continue on yet. So I set it aside and decided to get on to the rest of the items on my list for the day. And just to be clear: I have not given up on the open submission time. I am still aiming to have a finished story by the end of the year.

For now though, I have plenty of other things on my list to do. One of these was to finish up my Christmas shopping. It hasn’t gone well so far, but I still have the rest of the day to work on it. I’m just taking a break because I really don’t like shopping and I’m pretty sure people should not interact with each other when they are out for blood in order to get the latest toy.

This is a perfect time to get some wrapping done though, so I’ll get some headway on that before I go out to brave the stores once again. We’ll see how this goes.
