Ooh… doughnut

Speaking of distrac... ooh doughnut!

Speaking of distrac… ooh doughnut!

This is me today. I’ve been very happily working on Jacoby Figurine for the better part of the month, but my brother sent me a link to a page today: Open submissions for When the Hero Comes Home 2. The submission period is from December 1st through December 31st, but of course it was announced some time ago. This doesn’t help me of course, so I have a whopping 11 days left to get a story together that fits the theme, edited and ready. I can write a haphazard novel of 50,000 words in 30 days, so I think getting a story of 2,000-5,000 words written, edited, polished in 11 days should be… well painful. I don’t know if I’ll succeed at it, but it is a goal.

So, I am taking a break from editing. I have the benefit of the holiday break from school and a couple of extra days off from work while the kids are spending time with their mother, so this is an opportunity to break something out. I haven’t written word one yet, but I’m tossing around a few ideas. On Saturday, I was planning on going to another informal write-in in the morning and I think that will be an excellent opportunity to churn out the full first draft.

Shifting gears, in a good way, and hoping to pull something off that I can be proud of. And if I can’t be proud of it, I might be able to get it submitted anyway.

So bear with me while I get out of my own way and get this done!
