Sunday Game Day

This is not a post about writing.

Today I woke up to my youngest (who has been sick for the last few days) coming into my room at 5am and asking me if I wanted to play a game of Magic the Gathering. He is five and loves to play all kinds of games, and this one has a renewed interest in the house lately, so I wasn’t at all surprised. I wasn’t exactly pleased, but I told him to lay down and go to sleep so that’s what he did.

At 7am, my oldest came in with his Magic deck and asked if I wanted to play a game. I told him that I would think about it after breakfast, tuned the radio to Acoustic Sunrise on Mix 104.1 and got myself ready to get up for the day.

By 9am, I had played half a dozen matches between the two boys, gotten breakfast for everyone and started to play a game of Dungeon! (which is a board game produced by TSR back in my childhood). By noon, I was up to a dozen matches and two games of Dungeon! and the kids also played a game of Dragonology.

The rest of my Sunday pretty much went this way and this isn’t altogether uncommon. We go through spurts of Family Game Day on Sundays and this was a nice reminder of it. It seemed an appropriate set of activities for a rainy Sunday and I think we all had a great time.
