Day 14: Goal 1667, Actual 1726

First off, today is NaNoWriMo’s donation day. They had a reasonable (and lofty) goal to raise $50,000 today between 6am and 11pm PST. I’m happy to report they made it and then some. I did donate for the first time this year. This challenge has gotten me to write over 150,000 words so far in three years, and I hope to let it produce that much more, especially in off-season writing.

I hope to set aside the cash next year to get out to San Francisco and participate in the “Night of Writing Dangerously.” I can’t think of anything more fun than getting all decked out for a day and night of writing. The fact that I’ve never been past the Mississippi river might have something to do with the desire to get out there too.

This Saturday, is my region’s smaller (and free) version of the event: the all-day write-in. We did this last year and I managed quite a few words that day. It was a very cold day. The location we were in didn’t have heat. And we wrote a whole lot. I’m looking forward to this year’s version for the hope that there will be heat. Heat would be nice. And so would a beefy word count for the event.

I procrastinated a lot tonight. I had the opportunity to start writing around 8:30, but delayed myself until 10:15 and even then didn’t really focus on it too well. I wrote 200 words, then took a break. Then another 600 and took a break. The last stretch broke me out of my funk and I wrote almost 900, so I managed my word count goal for the day, but not really much more.

This is fine, really it is. I want to write more, but as the night wanes on, I keep looking at the clock and start telling myself I need to get some sleep. Tomorrow is another day and my kids will make sure I get up bright and early to make the most effective use of that time. Well, in their minds anyways…

I feel the need to ask a question today, but I don’t really have one in mind. How about this: You answer a question and I’ll give you the question that goes with it. This isn’t Jeopardy, so I’m not going to be wrong and I’m certainly not going to lose any money for it. So have at it.
