Day 10: Goal 1667, Actual 1677

Saturdays during November are anything but typical. Usually, I do have my “allotted” time to write after the kids go to bed. In past years, I would usually go to one of the area’s write-ins because they were great opportunities to talk to people who also wrote furiously during November and also to give myself some much needed me time.

Last Saturday (the first Saturday write-in), I missed because I had a nice family dinner. And then that night I had a game to play in. There were a few hours in the middle that were unoccupied, but my kids were all awake and wanting my attention, so I got nothing done. So, in other words, last Saturday was a my first 0-Word-day of the NaNo2012 season.

Today, I had hoped that I would have the time and opportunity to get down to the 2nd write-in. Unfortunately, I didn’t secure someone to watch the kids and, as luck would have it, my mother was coming by in the afternoon to give my daughter a much-talked-about birthday present: a new bed and a new bureau. For those who do not know me or my kids, I’ll just say that her room was a disaster, so it was needing about half-a-day’s worth of cleaning to get it to the point that we could switch out beds.

So instead of writing this morning or even this afternoon, I spent the day cleaning. Don’t get me wrong, it was sorely needed and I got much more done today than just her room. I did miss the write-in though.

But to see how happy my daughter was when we brought the bed up, that made the bulk of the cleaning worth it.

The end result of the day though is just a typical amount of writing for a day in November. Reaching just enough for the daily goal, but little more than that. It is a fine number truthfully and I feel fine getting there.
