Day 7: Goal 1667, Actual 1897

Procrastination really hit me today. The kids were in bed and asleep, I didn’t have the television on, I didn’t have anything to do but get my daily writing allotment done.

So I surfed the web, made some unfunny jokes, gave my brother some trash talk and didn’t write…

This is not the way to get things done though and eventually procrastination has to be kicked to the curb. And so I did.

I don’t think I handled killing off this character too well. It really wasn’t in the plan. I do realize I actually left it rather open, so it would be possible to discover later on that this girl is actually not dead in the story. To the main character, right at this moment though, he thinks she is. And he’s having weird dreams too.

This story did start off as having elements of my own life distorted into fiction, but it really has taken on a life of its own. I enjoy the morphing it is doing and I do wonder where it is ultimately heading. I have no clue, so I don’t really know if it is going to be able to continue on for another forty-thousand words or if it will peter out after another five thousand. I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

I want to offer congratulations to my brother by the way. This is his first year participating and was a little discouraged to be a fair bit behind after the first couple of days. However, he has really pushed his limits the past two or three days and covered up the bulk of the deficit he was in.

I guess that’s all for today. I’m particularly exhausted tonight, so I think I’ll turn in and hope I figure out this life and death balance by the next time I sit down to write. I doubt I will though, that’s just the nature of the beast some days.
